The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has announced that 18 Bellarmine College Preparatory seniors have qualified as semifinalists in the 62nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These young men will be considered for National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2017.

The Bellarmine students announced as National Merit Scholarship semifinalists are: Peter Boenninghausen, Nathan Chan, Kevin Chang, Brandon Chow, Quentin Delepine, Bao Dinh, Cole Hammers, Johannes Hui, Benjamin Ma, Dan Ngo, Pranaya Pahwa, Trevor Perey, William Pramono, Max Ryan, Arvind Sridhar, Bryon Tjanaka, Simon Trinh and Maxwell Yun.

The group of approximately 16,000 semifinalists nationwide represent the highest-scoring students from each state. Finalists in the competition will be announced in February 2017, with selection based upon academic record, participation in school and community activities, and demonstrated leadership ability, among other criteria. Some 7,500 Merit Scholarships will be awarded to finalists next spring.

The National Merit Scholarship Program, according to the NMSC, “honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.”
