Mark Canha '07 Named AL Player of the Week

Oakland Athletics outfielder Mark Canha '07 was named American League Player of the Week on Aug. 26. The former Bellarmine and Cal star batted .471 and belted four home runs over a five-game span tio claim the first weekly award of his career.

Now in his fifth Major League season, Canha has had a breakout season for the A's, who are in the thick of the American League postseason race. He's batting .277 with a career-high 23 homers and leads Oakland in both on-base percentage (.391) and slugging percentage (.547). He has been espeically hot during the stretch run, hitting .323 since the all-star break with a scorching .360 average in the month of August.
