Work Grant

Program Overview

All students who receive tuition assistance must participate in our work grant program. This program furthers our emphasis on servant-leadership and helps Bellarmine be a better place.

Because this is a serious obligation, you and your parents must understand how the program works and communicate any questions or problems in a timely fashion. We do not intend for this obligation to be detrimental to your studies or participation in school activities, so if you have any concerns, please let us know.

Types of Opportunities

What types of work grant opportunities are there?

  • Events, dinners, receptions etc.
  • Miscellaneous activities / opportunities that come up, often on short notice

Calculation and Completion of Hours

  • All students receiving tuition assistance have a required minimum 20-hour service obligation. This is denoted in x2VOL, which is accessed via the button in the right-hand column of this page.
  • In addition to the 20-hour work requirement, each student in the program is required to help in some way with the annual Golden Bell Auction. The Golden Bell is our primary fundraising event for the financial aid program, so all work grant students are asked to provide assistance, alongside nearly 100 other parent, student, faculty and staff volunteers, in the preparation, production or hosting of the event. This year's auction will be held on March 10, 2018. The schedule of opportunities will be posted three weeks prior to the event and will include auction prep on March 8, set up on March 9, day of activities on March 10 and clean up on March 11.
  • The online registration form for opportunities will indicate the number of hours to be granted for each event.
  • Work Grant Hours must be completed by April 30, 2018. Contact Ms. Galli in the Work Grant Office before April 1, 2018, if you anticipate difficulty in completing your hours.
    • Seniors will not receive their diploma until all hours have been completed or a $20.00 per hour non-compliance penalty is paid.
    • There will not be any financial aid award or registration/enrollment processed for returning students until the work grant obligation is completed or is determined to be on target for completion. This evaluation will be made in mid-April.

Student Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  1. Checking the online work grant calendar on x2VOL for opportunities.
  2. Checking your Bellarmine email on a regular basis. We often send announcements of new opportunities, deadlines and other important news via email.
  3. Keeping a record of dates, times, locations and proper dress for events you are working.
  4. Showing up on time. Unexcused no-shows will be penalized by the addition of at least 5 hours to your balance of remaining hours, i.e., hours yet to be completed.
  5. Writing a letter of thanks to a donor whose gift has helped to make Bellarmine's Financial Aid program possible. The Office of Advancement will contact you during the latter part of the school year with specifics.

Work Grant Calendar

A calendar of upcoming work opportunities is available in x2VOL. It is important that you plan ahead, checking your personal work grant status and the listing of opportunities on a regular basis.
